Physician Preference Item (PPI) Consulting

MedAssets achieves savings for clients through physician preference items (PPI) cost reduction. PPI can be defined as implants and/or implantable devices, as well as expensive disposable items used during surgical procedures.  Examples of PPI include stents, catheters, heart valves, pacemakers, leads, total joint implants, spine implants, and bone products.

Our consultants analyze data and processes related to clients’ current PPI purchasing practices and identify the best opportunities for improvement. We then work closely with physicians to gain their support. From there, we facilitate vendor negotiations, implement new pricing, measure results and audit compliance. Our PPI process typically results in savings of 5-20 percent of implant expense.
